How to Blog Day 11. Get 10 Post Ideas
In continuation of my review for 31 Days To Build A Better Blog, day 11′s instructions are to come up with 10 post ideas. The book goes into ideas of mindmapping and refers you to other websites for ideas on how to come up with ideas.
The book has a nice starting point for this idea. You can -
- expand on an old post
- Take an idea and stretch it out. You take one big idea, then try to extract smaller ideas out of it for better posts.
This is one of the biggest stumbling blocks that there is in blogging. I can see some use for this idea. You want an ongoing blog with no unannounced breaks in service. If you want readers to be used to seeing daily posts from you, you’d better have content for them. Remember getting the newspaper everyday. You could count on a few days a week having really not being that great, but you expected that newspaper daily. This is the same idea. It makes sense to me that you should have some ideas going so that when you set down to write, you don’t get writers block.
Keep in mind that with WordPress and other blogs, you can schedule your posts. If you come up with 10 ideas, you can write 10 articles and schedule them to come out over the next 10 days. For the spur of the moment posts, it will be like adding a bonus post for that day, or you could bump up your scheduling to extend out further.
