Hillary’s Sub-Prime Issue

Greedy hand grabs money lot of dollars

Hillary’s Sub-Prime IssueAs Clinton talks about nation’s housing crunch, her campaign manager sits on board of bankrupt sub-prime lender

As I read this, I thought about quite a few things that effect every American. We’re all getting scammed and we know it, we just try to close our eyes and hope it isn’t so.

Here we have a person who is claiming to be a champion of the people, taking full advantage of the mortgage scams. This is old hat for her too! Remember the Whitewater land deals? She and her cronies were well known for throwing people out of their homes within 3 missed payments. There’s your liberal compassion at work!

I read in interesting conspiracy theory type of website where the author was explaining that we go after the wrong “bad guys”. The politicians will always be bad guys and trying to get rid of them is an endless game of whack-a-mole. As soon as you smack one down, another comes to replace it in another place. The real bad guys are the companies that take the government funding. They steal from all of us, they put their competitors out of business with unfair legislation, and they promote an atmosphere that enslaves us all.

There are going to be big winners in this mortage debacle, and it’s not going to be the average American. It’s going to be banks that have put other banks out of business. The politicians standing behind those winning banks are going to be big winners. The realtors that collected big commissions on inflated home prices are already winners.

I remember a class in high school about 1984 where the teacher told us that you should not buy a house that exceeds 1 year’s salary. Can you imagine that logic in today’s time? My house cost about 3 times my annual salary when I purchased it. The banks, realtors, and mortage lending companies have figured a way for a house to cost many more than 1 years salary and the financial media has pushed this to sound like a great idea. You buy a house well above what you can afford with some voodoo loan, then sell it at a huge profit a year after you buy it? I don’t think so.

I’m no financial expert by an stretch of the imagination. I’ve made quite a few mistakes, but I tried the best I could to make my home a reasonably wise purchase. I still had problems. The house I bought needs work and we have been pressured by everyone to take out loans to do the work. Why not, there are people making less money than me buying brand new houses for twice the value of mine right down the road? Neighbors have refinanced and refinanced to make their home beautiful, I should too right? The money is out there for the taking, why not?

Now, 9 years later, we still have resisted a refinance. Some repairs have been done, but there will always be something to fix. So, by being so frugle and not refinancing, I should be way ahead of the game right? Not a chance. My payment started out at $700 and has creeped up to $1000! Taxes and insurance just keep rising. I’ve had to take time to stop a scam by the local government to artificially raise the tax appraisal values in order to raise taxes. My mortgage is still more than rent on a similar home. If I would have taken on any additional mortgage debt, I would be in trouble, as many are.

The same folks that ridiculed my decisions are in serious trouble and they want my money to fix their problem. The politicians want to be their savior to gain favor. The mortgage companies want the bailout. Everyone wants to ride on the backs of those who make reasonable decisions. Many of the folks that were just trying to keep up with the status quo will file bankruptcy face all of the problems that go along with it.

The only way I know of to combat this is to expose who is profiting from mortage scams. I’ll be looking for websites that take care of that for us. Toss all of your refinance junk mail and ignore offers.

The lessons to be learned here are obvious -

  • Don’t be greedy. You don’t need everything fixed right away. Take your time and keep the goal of actually owning your home in mind
  • Houses are places to live, not investments. Keep this in mind, before you and mortage start to play games with it.
  • House values go up and down. Remember the down part.

This is not a “told you so”, it’s just a lesson learned. I’m hoping that the mortgage crises awakens others to common scams by trusted corporations the same way it has me.

Here’s our first exposed thief – Goldman-Sachs. And here is a starting point to figure out who these people are and who they are affiliated with. It’s interesting stuff. It’s even more interesting than something a conspiracy theorists could conjure up.

U.S. Army Suspends Co. Accused of Supplying Bad Ammo

U.S. Army Suspends Co. Accused of Supplying Bad AmmoMunitions contractor accused of fraudulently selling million of dollars worth of Chinese-made ammunition to the U.S. Army to be used by Afghan forces fighting Al Qaeda and Taliban extremists. [Fox News Headlines]

This report begs a few more questions. What were were buying Hungarian ammunition made over 20 years ago for anyhow? Who would want to do battle with any ammunition more than a few years at most? Can’t we skimp somewhere to get our soldiers the best ammunition?

What ammunition is made in China? I’m guessing AK-47 ammuntion.

The only excuse for this would be that it was just ammunition for the practice range, but that’s not a very good excuse either.

I would bet that everyone involved knew that China was involved. Our politicians and big business folks love those folks for all their cheap crap. The article states that over 150 contracts were made with this company. Imagine the scams and money we sent to China that could have been used for quality gear made in the U.S.

Do you think that a follow up will get anyone involved in trouble. I bet we never hear about this again. The only people in trouble most likely will be the good folks who reported the problem. If we get Hillary Clinton elected, her and Willy know the Chinese really well. Maybe she’ll help us figure this out.

AEY needs to be put up on charges bigger than just the usual scam charges. They were putting soldiers lives at risk, aiding and comforting the enemy, etc.

Interstate 70 Near Buckeye Lake, OhioFlooded Again

Once again heavy rains have closed down one lane on 70 eastbound and the 79 southbound on-ramp to 70 west.

This happens every time we get heavy rains, so nothing new here, but I thought I would send some pictures.

Interstate 70 has an interesting history of problems. The old timers will tell you how the DOT was warned about most of them before it was built. The mines underneath the highway are the most dangerous and there have been collapses in the past. The flooding near Buckeye Lake would have been an obvious problem, it’s in a low lying area next to a lake. If the highway were routed just a little north, these problems would have been avoided and the Interstate would have served the towns of Heath, Ohio and Newark, Ohio better.

Other highways like “The Snow Chi Minh Trail”, which is Interstate 80 across Wyoming have problems that were ignored to satisfy political need also. The Indians in the area could not believe they would put a highway right through an area well known for bad snow storms dating back to ancient times. They bypassed towns that would have benefited from the highway in this case too.

You would think that there would be public outcry when they continue to make the same mistakes over and over, but we put up with it.  I guess it’s just easier to let it go and let them do as they will.

Here are some photos of the flooding.

Old Ford Gran Torino

Old Ford Gran Torino

Old Ford Gran Torino.

Bad photography, I know, but good enough to get the point across. This was a cool car. I believe it’s a 1968 Torino, but it could be an old Mercury. Fords were never my favorite, but they made some nice looking cars in this era. I didn’t want to bother the owners, so I took the picture from quite a distance.

When I was a teenager, I had a friend’s Dad that had a Cobra Jet similar to this. I remember it being an odd looking muscle car, but very cool. With the sloped back window, I guess they figured that forward movement was all that mattered. There’s no way you could see much, but it sure looked cool.

As for the photography, I’m trying to learn a new camera. I’m not doing to well with low light conditions like this. I have to master the noise levels yet. The noise is all those purple speckles you see when you look very close. It’s a common condition for digital cameras, but this one is worse than most. I may have to resort to spending money on software that corrects the problem.

Woman Goes for Leg Operation, Gets New Anus Instead

Woman Goes for Leg Operation, Gets New Anus InsteadA German retiree is taking a hospital to court after she went in for a leg operation and got a new anus instead. [Fox News Headlines]

Now there’s a fine example of socialized medicine for you! That’s what Hillary wants for us, right there. The closest we can get is the fine care at the VA hospitals where they tend to cut off the wrong leg.

Imagine waking up to a new anus! I doubt they can sue for much under their socialized medicine. From what I’ve heard the amounts are low. Hopefully, the court will consider pain and suffereing on this one. The article said the medical team was “suspended”. Suspended hell! I think they need to be set up for a similar operation so they can figure out just where they went wrong.

I have to admit that I thought “tearing someone a new one” was just an expression. I didn’t know they could actually do it until now.

I-95 Shut Down in Philadelphia After Large Crack Discovered

I-95 Shut Down in Philadelphia After Large Crack DiscoveredA two-mile stretch of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia was shut down early Tuesday for at least two days for emergency repairs of a 4-foot crack in a concrete support pillar of the major northeast corridor. [Fox News Headlines]

I’ve seen alot of large cracks in Philly, but what does this have to do with the highway? :-)

But seriously, I’m hoping I don’t have to back near there in the truck. The Philadelphia area is a nightmare in the truck and if they disrupt anything on I-95, life gets really bad. A trucker ends up spending his whole day to get the load, and get out of there to begin with.

It makes you wonder where all the tax money goes. We pay and pay, but things like this are left undone. I’d like to see the yacht we bought instead of fixing the highway there.

‘Scambaiters’ Turn Tables on Nigerian E-Mail Scam Artists

‘Scambaiters’ Turn Tables on Nigerian E-Mail Scam ArtistsRevenge is sweet and sometimes permanent for a growing legion of ‘scambaiters’ who have taken it upon themselves to punish the thieves behind those Nigerian e-mail scams. [Fox News Headlines]

Now this is funny stuff. The scammers from Nigeria fall for far more ridiculous exploits than they send out. Going so far as to get tattoes. The scambaiters are going to make money off of some great websites following the antics created too. Great stuff.

Drivers May Park Trucks Due to Cost of Diesel.

Drivers may park trucks due to cost of diesel – MOUNT VERNON — The high cost of fuel has hit everyone hard, and it doesn’t look like the prices are going to come down any time soon. [Mount Vernon News]

I haven’t even listened to the CB lately to find out that drivers are threatening to stay home March 24, 2008. I’ve seen this threat so many times that I don’t care to count, but this one has teeth. It’s not just because of another useless rule heaped on truck drivers, it’s also about money. I think that this “truckers strike” will go by unnoticed as all the others have, but it will be a gradual forced strike as truckers run out of a reason to run. In the past, this just shook out all of the operators with no financial reserves, but the amount of reserves need for spikes like we’ve been experiencing a to much for even larger companies to take.

The price of diesel reached the highest I have ever seen. My company paid $4.05/gallon last week. It quickly dropped, but it must have sparked the threat of a driver’s strike. My company is making a plea to reduce idling of the trucks. I can’t blame them, but I can’t freeze either. If it’s below 35 degrees, I’m not equipped to stay warm enough to sleep and a driver without sleep is worse than a truck with no fuel.

The conspiracy theory side of my mind tells me that the powers that be are pushing the prices as far as they can to get the most out of the population before things break, then they back off, but just a little. The fall back is still higher than the spike, but folks accept it.

The price of gas is really not important in my opinion. I’ve seen it rise and rise, and folks keep driving like crazy. Highways are clogged and SUV’s with one occupant are pushing 90mph daily. I don’t have a problem with the high usage of vehicles, but if the price was truly to high, driving habits would change. The real problem is the price of diesel. That is factor that matters because diesel is fuel that creates the cost of everything. EVERYTHING is trucked and everything to make stuff is trucked. These prices ease into the cost of everything.

I’m no economist, but I can see what is happening from watching congress on tv and the news in general. They are faking the economy, even worse than the Clinton’s did. They’re sending out tax rebates, giving all sorts of credit way with plans of gouging us on fees and late penalties, etc. They’re doing this to improve their opinion polls until there is a change of office.

I see big trouble coming. We’re at war, but nobody’s paying for it right now. As one comment I heard said, “The military is at war, not America. America is at the mall.” Add this to a presidential election year and a failed economy based on greedy ideas. Then their trying to infuse foreign money with a fall of the dollar’s value abroad!

On a personal level, I am keeping the motorcycles ready, and trying to stay lean on spending. No tax rebate or credit card application is going to sucker me into letting loose of my money. I would love to spend so that my money stays out of China, but most of us cannot do it.

As for parking the my big truck, that’s up to my employer. If they say to run, that’s my job and they’re buying the fuel.

Big Snowy Day

I made it home from trucking last night with a little bit of luck. Everything went wrong Thursday to cause me to be late getting home.

I came across Illinois and Indiana Friday and the only problem was a serious headwind. I had a light load, but still could only manage 55 mph. The truck was sucking down alot of fuel to keep that pace.

I tried to get to the Ohio DOT road condition page, but it was useless. They make a fancy page with all sorts of graphics and interactivity, but don’t provide the bandwith to support it when we need it the most. Why not just post what roads are having problems? That’s all I needed to know. Taxpayer dollars wasted on poor design.

The radio proved to be useless as every weather event is an emergency, so you never know when to care about what they say.

With all of the information available today, you still can’t get a decent weather report. You just keep trucking and hope you’re making the right choices. The worst that you want to happen is to be stuck at a good truckstop and and not in a ditch.

Until tomorrow, I’m going nowhere!
